Trash And Clash Watercolor by Comickpro Trash And Clash Watercolor by Comickpro
One of the two larger watercolors I did for the Annual Children's Illustration Exhibition in Hayward California. Considering most people there would not know who Trash and Clash were, I made two illustrated pinup pieces that acted as introductions to the characters (there comic was available to read as well). I had fun with this piece since it was the largest watercolor I have ever attempted thus far....a whooping 16x20 piece! Also I think this is the first time Trash and Clash have ever been shown in a gallery setting so that was new for me as well. Most feedback on it was positive from the kids side...the parents were not as receptive to my giant mutant chicken with teeth and a hot purple duck being friends haha.

you can see both pieces here in their frames:

That museum sounds like they maybe don't do research on the submissions... But these are very cool.

haha thanks man! Yeah I think they saw some work of mine from Trash and Clash and assumed it was PC based on the bright colors and cute duck :b but they didn't ban me from the show when they actually saw everything in fact they felt it was neat to include something out of the norm haha. So Im just happy they approved!

This is awesome Crystal! I think it says something about the parents not being as receptive as the kids. Kids reactions are true and from the gut. Sometimes they don't know why they like something... they just do. I'm illustrating my wife's children's book and we both agreed that an edgier look to the characters is going to please us more as well as the kids.

ah yeah! Your drawings are a perfect blend that could sit well in a kids book but also stay unique and edgy for the content. I could totally see your monster doggy in a world with kids and things! haha. Or maybe make a book based on that statue you did of that kid with all the creepy monsters under his bed :B I'd read that! anyways yeah it was a blast and fun to see kids pick up on trash and clash so easily...youre right its some raw gut thing. They don't mind diving right in :)

Thanks Crystal!
It's going to be a lot of fun.
We need more kids books that challenge and excite them.
There's too many sappy, cutesy, mainstream kids books.
Have a great weekend!
